A Reminder of The Why
I hate to admit it, but there are days when I just don’t care about work and business and charity and I feel defeated. I start in on the questioning of my own spot in this arena – things cross my mind like, “Am I even making a difference, or am I just a part of the noise?” That has always been something I wanted to avoid – doing something just to do it, without it making a meaningful impact. I’m not here to be mediocre folks! I want to use any gifts I have to serve a greater good - whether that’s at home, with my businesses, or with strangers, that is what I feel called to do.
The below note was a perfect reminder to keep on keeping on. That what you do matters, and that we can make a difference. This is why you do the good work, the hard work, the work of “work”.
This note was written by a mom whose son is facing a life threatening illness. Their family is connected with MaxLove Project, who has helped them be a part of #Zovsfamilytable. Zov’s Family Table is the community outreach arm of Zov’s Bistro, a local family-owned Orange County restaurant that wanted to give back in a more focused way. We created this Zov’s Family Table imitative to help give families hope through food and the Zov’s family love.
“I cannot thank you enough for the meal you helped arrange for our family from Zovs tonight. It was one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for us.
Andrew has a feeding tube since for months, he has not wanted to eat much at all. He was so touched that someone brought food for us. He immediately, for the first time in months, said the food smelled good and he was willing to try some of everything! We couldn't believe it! He said he liked some of the dishes so much he wanted to hug and kiss them and he wanted new to save some so he could enjoy it two days instead of one. Most nights, he won't even look at the food that was prepared, let alone try it. I cannot thank you enough for all that you do. Thank you!!!!!"
These are the notes we live for. We means you and me, because if you’re reading this I know you have a heart like mine. What you do matters. There is no gesture too small or too big, they are all good.
The reason I wanted to match business up with charity is for this. To create these partnership, and this impact. I hope it creates ripples I will never even know about.
